Grocery list: October 21, 2012

Late post today as we spent the afternoon at the in-laws’ house. Sunday dinners would take place on a regular basis in my family. My father’s parents actually had a second kitchen in their basement with dining space for about 40 to 50, all of which was necessary to seat the 10 or so grandchildren and their spouses/significant others.  My mother’s family was smaller, but dinner was no less involved. Usually, a pasta and a meat, along with the requisite green salad and vegetable drowned in butter. There was no shortage of saturated fat and calories to be found.

Those Sunday dinners are fewer and further between, and usually reserved for Saturday nights. Today’s veal stew was in a tomato-based sauce and served iwth polenta patate, The Wife’s family meal that I examined on this site once before. It was the perfect prelude to my extended Sunday nap, which took place on a different couch.

Today’s grocery list restocked my supply of dish soap and will setup the following dinners this week:

  • Meatless Monday: Baked orzo with eggplant and mozzarella.
  • Chicken and white bean soup.
  • Kale and white bean stew.
  • Beef, shitake and snow pea stir-fry.
